Update on the DVC Property Development
The aim of the development is to create a church premises which are available to all, have a modern outward looking focus and are as eco-friendly as possible within the bounds of cost. It is the objective to always have an area of the premises which is available for worship throughout the life of the project which is estimated to be about 2 and a half years.
The property development committee of 8 members of the congregation, appointed by the Church Council, has met monthly since last summer. I am delighted to report that full planning permission was granted for the project on July 29th. There are a few technical conditions which our architect has advised are perfectly normal and they see no problem with them being satisfied as we proceed through the phases of the development. The committee will meet again in 3 weeks’ time and continue to refine the detailed specifications for the project with a view to going out to tender in September.
After a consultation with the whole Church community and a discussion at the Church Council, the Council has agreed that the pews will remain in the church after the refurbishment. As previously agreed, a couple of the pews will be removed at the back to make room for chairs which are more suitable for wheelchair users and those with buggies.
Four sub committees have been formed to take forward the detailed review of different aspects of the project. Given the timescales involved and the necessity to go through a rigorous tendering process, to ensure we are getting value for money, the start of the project will be sometime between November and January.
